The essay: a standalone front door for the thesis

Essay v1.0 ships as a new artifact line, separate from the thesis record.

What shipped

The essay (9 pages, standalone PDF at /pdf/afterfiat-essay-v1.0.pdf, online reader at /essay/read/): AfterFiat: The Load-Bearing Thesis — the instrument panel for the monetary regime transition. Seven chapters: the two dashboards, what breaks when guarantees fail, the cost of checking, the grid, the trip wires, how this fails, and what the operator does Monday. It is SA-shaped in mechanics — a forwardable standalone artifact with a status-voucher opening, one carried unit (VerifyPrice), a register shift into sovereign capacity, and a trip-wire calendar instead of a dated forecast — while refusing the certainty engine, the martyrdom narrative, and everything on the PRD’s refuse-list. The essay stands alone; the thesis appears as the record in its endnote matter, not as a parent document.

The grid figure (/images/grid-figure.png): the one chart — four sovereign states against the capital cycle, each cell naming its identifying observable and the instrument that reads it. Designed for screenshotting; the essay’s chapter 4 embeds it as the OOM-chart equivalent.

The trip-wire feed (/tripwires/): all fifteen red lines as a public checklist with instrument, clock, and status columns. Launch state is honest — spec published, not live readings — because the measurement infrastructure does not exist yet. The honesty is the brand.

The operator checklist (2 pages, in the press kit at operator-checklist.pdf): the thesis §25 extracted as the artifact allocators forward to each other.

The reference panel spec (/instruments/reference-panel-spec.pdf): the pre-committed bypass-venue panel for Red Line 14 — venue list, reading rule, custody rule, change protocol, workload-to-instance mapping — released as a public good useful whether or not the thesis survives.

Positioning

The three-surface architecture from the attention-criticality PRD is now live: the essay (front door), the thesis (record, v2.6), and the instruments (conversion). Attention flows essay → thesis → instruments; conversion target is measurement usage, not capital. The nav gained an Essay link ahead of Read.

Boundaries held

No dated outcome predictions. No fund, token, or gate. No red line relaxed or threshold moved. The essay is versioned essay-v1.x, separate from the thesis v2.x line, so nothing written for punch leaks into the citation artifact.
